PETMBF, People for the Ethical Treatment of Mammals, Birds, and Fish, will focus exclusively on imagined damage done to mammals, birds, and fish. PETAA, People for the Ethical Treatment of All Animals, will work to ensure that all animals are adequately protected. "It came down to the question of whether insects are animals", said a PETA spokesman. "Some people felt that, since insects are not irresistably cute and cuddly, they couldn't really be considered *animals*, and were not entitled to our love, respect, and devotion. Other people felt that, since insects are certainly not vegetables, rocks, or human, that they are worthy of care." Other points of contention have included arthropods, arachnids, and venemous reptiles. A heated debate about whether a caterpillar is "fuzzy" left three people dead during a conference to debate the issue. -s -- Copyright 2001, all wrongs reversed.
