Yay doctors!

In modern America, it is a career-risking move to come out and say that you refuse to rape your patients. So this doctor said it anonymously.

I am all for the idea of doctors who refuse to commit rape even when state legislators attempt to mandate it.

Are are you also all for the idea of doctors who refuse to kill babies even if federal legislators attempt to mandate it?

Well, obviously. And that’s been the state of the art roughly forever.

There is a fuzzy problem which comes up, though. How would you feel about a doctor who was from one of the branches of the JWs or Christian Scientists, who refused to perform blood transfusions? How about a doctor who was one of the really extreme sorts who believes all medical care is lack of faith, and refused to provide any medical care whatsoever?

The job of a doctor is to provide the best possible medical care, full stop. In some cases, such as stillbirths, most doctors seem to agree that a thing which some people would call an “abortion” is the best possible medical care.

No one has ever argued that raping women for being sluts is good medical care. The Texas law is not there to improve medical care; it’s to punish sluts for having sex.
