As I mentioned previously, my Advent TV sucks. A month or two out of warranty, it lost the ability to power on. This behavior has been noted by other people. I took it in for service, based on the suggestion from the Advent people that it wouldn’t be very expensive.

I overpaid a traffic ticket. I don’t get a refund. Hennepin County traffic tickets, it turns out, can be overpaid by up to $5 and there’s no way to get a refund. The computer, you see, is willing to approximate. If you pay anything within $5 of the ticket price, either way, your ticket is closed out.

Okay, first things first: I don’t like Sony anymore. In the years since they made the TV I like, they’ve become a fairly nasty, evil, company, with a really strong commitment to screwing consumers. They are in every way diametrically opposed to any kind of rights for the consumers of media, and they go out of their way to introduce shiny new incompatibilities (Memory Stick, anyone?) for no reason other than to try to make themselves be the holders of the patent on a new toy.
