Allied Telesyn almost settled. (2005/03/03)
Argh! This is the junk fax case I rarely talk about. It’s mostly-nearly settled, but they want terms to be confidential until after they’ve mailed checks, because there would be fewer claims that way. They have done the whole nine yards with silly and/or false defenses, and I’m not inclined to be cooperative. Furthermore, how am I supposed to keep this information secret from journalists when I’ve been discussing the negotiations with my mom all along? [read more...]
Room for one more. (2005/03/03)
Quakers tend to sit in circles quietly for worship. This involves putting out chairs. Attendance varies; we’ve had anywhere from 3 to 14 people at Wednesday night meetings. There’s generally about 10 chairs. Sometimes, that’s not enough, so we go get extra chairs, to make room. [read more...]
Twenty two days. (2005/03/02)
So, my spouse and I are both inclined to collect music, and I keep all my music on the computer as MP3s. To be fair, we have about five downloaded songs in the collection; stuff that isn’t in print, like Skeewiff’s techno remix of Man Of Constant Sorrow. And, like most people, we have an album or two we don’t own, such as a copy of the musical By Jeeves, which I have never seen for sale in the US. [read more...]
Ethical money laundering (2005/03/01)
The idea of money laundering is to take money that is in some way dirty and make it clean. For instance, a business could take in a lot of cash, some of it stolen, but as long as that’s normal for that business, it’s hard to prove anything. [read more...]
Looks to be hard to settle this after all. (2005/02/28)
Ace Mortgage wanted to settle, but they don’t get it. They are trying to talk about settlement, but they want confidentiality and a time limit on the no-faxing rule. Hah. I don’t think they get it. The reason I settle fax cases for money is that people who send junk faxes generally don’t get ethics; all they hear is indistinct buzzing noises. This means they have to pay money, or they won’t believe it’s real. They also need an agreement not to fax, or they will anyway. [read more...]
Datahand first impressions (2005/02/26)
This is a cool gizmo. It isn’t perfect, but it’s quite nice. I’m using it in Dvorak mode. [read more...]
On second thought, maybe a little less unity. (2005/02/25)
In a post titled A call for unity, I put forward what was, ostensibly, a call to unite behind the current American President. Several people have expressed concerns about the wording. Let me help explain. [read more...]
DataHand keyboards... Mmm, keyboards. (2005/02/24)
Okay, I admit to being a little biased towards Kinesis Ergonomic keyboards… But it’s hard not to be sorta tempted by the DataHand keyboard, which is honestly one of the coolest-looking keyboards I’ve ever seen. [read more...]
A call for unity (2005/02/20)
America has historically been a great country, a bastion of freedom, and I think it’s clear that we need to take action to regain our rightful place in the world. America is under attack; the enemies of the state are a clear and present danger to us. We need to do something about terrorists. We need to reclaim what is historically ours. [read more...]
Moneydance is still the best. (2005/02/18)
A while back, I wrote about switching to Moneydance. Moneydance is a shareware home finance program. [read more...]
