I overpaid a traffic ticket. I don’t get a refund. Hennepin County traffic tickets, it turns out, can be overpaid by up to $5 and there’s no way to get a refund. The computer, you see, is willing to approximate. If you pay anything within $5 of the ticket price, either way, your ticket is closed out.
So.
According to the nice lady on the phone, Hennepin County is offering a $5 discount on all traffic tickets. There is no obvious reason to pay the full amount, since it’s clear that they will accept lower amounts. The moral argument here is simple; they have committed to accepting the rewards of this system, so I guess they’ve signed up for it.
