The Dove Foundation: Lying telemarketers

2006/03/07

Categories: Spam

So, we got a phone call from some lying telemarketer scum. They asked to speak to “the lady of the house”. (We don’t have one.) I told them not to call. A while later, they called again. We told them not to call.

I got curious and called in to find out who they are. They’re an organization claiming to promote “family-friendly” entertainment.

They give an A-OK rating to Left Behind, the blasphemous, ghoulishly masturbatory, apocalyptic revenge fantasy. They pan the Harry Potter movies for “occultism”. Harry Potter gets attacked for “violence”, but the recent production of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is okay. Because, see, a full-scale battle in which all the death happens off-screen is family friendly. It’s like the difference between a movie in which you actually see someone get punched, and the family-friendly entertainment of Gulf War I, where it was just buildings blowing up, with no identified people in them.

My favorite so far is that they attack the Fantastic 4 movie for “occultism”, on the grounds of “references by villain to being a god”. These people don’t understand metaphor, apparently.

These people are delusional, at best. They are dangerous, they are deceitful, and they promote evil.

But, frankly, what really bugs me is that they’re also telemarketers who have disregarded our request to not call us anymore.

Actually, one other thing is worth noting: They hang up on you. As soon as they’ve decided you’re not gonna give them money, they hang up. Because, see, your time isn’t worth anything; only theirs is.

Edited to add: For hilarity, read the glowing and supportive review of the Dove foundation posted at Family First. Then read the comments. And more comments. These people have been doing annoying telemarketing for a long time, and they don’t seem inclined to stop. They are, just as they seem to be, money-grubbing psychos who are out to rip off naive Christians who are afraid of the world.

I was just called on my cell phone. 877 291-7322 by “Cammy Argyle.” What is so amusing is she kept asking for the lady or man of the house. Here she is, talking to me and I sure don’t sound like a child or a housekeeper. I kept asking who she was working for and she said the dove foundation. But since I wouldn’t say if I was the man or the lady of the house she wanted to hang up (and did). How stupid is that?? They’ve figured out that only the idiots who go along with their “lady of the house” crap must be dumb enough to buy their lies.

That’s not all. In my case, the caller identified herself as “the county” when she asked for “the lady of the house.” Could this constitute FRAUD???

In any case, alert everyone that the Dove Foundation is another big telemarketing SCAM.

Those calls from Cammy are from a IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system. A computer, if you will. Show your love for them by visiting the website of the Michigan Attorney General. They have a nifty online complaint section. Missouri Attorney General Jax Nixon got a restraining order against the Dove Foundation; details are on his website.

My mom was in the other room while i got a dove foundation call. When I picked up they asked for a Susan, I said she does not live here. so they told me they were the dove foundation, and asked if there were any children under the age of 16 in the household. i said “your talking to one, and susan does not live here for the last time!” the woman said “thank you for your time” and just hung up.

This bitch calls me, wants to speak with the lady of the house. I asked her what she wanted, again wants to speak to the lady of the house. Second time I ask, what do you want? She says I’m with the Dove Foundation. That did it. I told her she was nothing more than a fucking telemarketer to get off my phone. I know who the Dove people are. They want YOUR money for their bull shit cause. SOCIALIST THINKING ASSHOLES! Don’t give these bums a second of your time. They want your money AND your name to show that YOU support their cause to help poor niggers and Mexicans.

To RDR:

Talking to that Dove Foundation computer is like talking to a drunk or a drug abuser. An incoherent conversation ensues. Remember, if you told the non-profit Dove Foundation’s robot to stop calling you and they call you again, it is a violation of the law.

I just got the call from Dove. Extremely annoying. So I looked at their web site for contact info so I could complain: no phone numbers, just a web form. But, if you look on the financial information form, there is the name and home address of the chairman and the directors. The chairman’s phone is listed in the phone book

(Dick Rolfe, (616) 681-0578). So I called him at home on a Friday evening. I suggest everyone do that.

It was interesting: he said that the reason the respresentative can’t answer questions too well is that she’s actually a recording, or rather a set of dozens of recordings, with responses to most questions. A real human listens to you and plays the right bits. But–get this–the human is monitoring four calls at once! So she can’t do a great job of it! Unbelievably insulting that they waste people’s time with that. Dick seemed to think it was all justied toward the end of getting hollywood to produce better films, but maybe if he gets enough calls this will change.

This creep called wanting “the lady of the house”. I said she is not here, and what do you want with her? She started on the Dove thing, got about two sentences out and I asked her if they were supported by any political action group. She hung up. If they call again, I will take action. I told them not to.

I just gave Dick a hang up, but I’ve got a few things to say when I have the time. Anyone have info on actions being taken against this group??

Still the same drill in October 2006. I also noted on another site they do not qualify as a charity and nearly 30 percent of their budget is for expenses and fundraising. My money goes to more efficient groups with whom I am more in sympathy. My preference is Food for the Poor

Thank goodness I did some research. They wanted to sell some independently produced kids films, but my biggest concern was that they had some sort of religious affiliation or backing. The “family values” they kept talking about made me very nervous.

And while I do think that a G rating doesn’t mean much anymore (anybody read the hood sticker on Lightning McQueen??) I am not about to leave it to religious whackos to try to dictate what my children watch.

I just got a call from Cammie at the Dove Foundation. This woman must work 24/7. When i tried to determine what the Dove Foundation is, she started to speak in circles about family friendly entertainment and didn’t I agree with her and when I challengened further she said they were only trying to protect…and before she got any further. I hung up and checked them out. I think these are very scary people.

November 14 – 1100 hours: Dove has “invaded” Oregon. “Cammie” asked for the lady of the house but had to settle for me. I asked who financed the Dove Foundation and she replied with a name (see above postings for name and home phone number). As “she” pressed for personal information I responded that I wasn’t about to give her any info about me or my family, asked not to be called again, and hung up.

Such automated calles are a pain in the neck and Dove apparently is a scofflaw about federal and state Do Not Call regulations.

Remember, you have just as much control over an unwanted phone intrusion as you do over unwanted/poor taste/etc television material: hang up on them.

It’s not a live person!

This is the first such call we’ve received - using voice recognition and artificial intelligence to try to convince you that you’re having a conversation with a live person.

Distrubingly and falsely, if you accuse it of being a computer, it claims that it’s a real person.

And the one line it does not understand is, “Take Us Off Your Call List,” to which it replies, “okay, well we’ll just call back later."

This kind of trickery is going to become more and more sophisticated. Beware!

Cammie came to Florida this morning, unfortunately. I thought I would be nice and give this person the benefit of the doubt, since I work on the phones. Little did I know that it’s not a real person. What bothered me the most is how leading the questions were, “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” I work for a survey company and we are told from day one that we are to remain neutral at all times and never lead the respondents on the phone. The “survey” Cammie took was extremely offensive and leading. They had better not call me again.

Cammie came to Staten Island NY-if I had known it was not a real person I would have hung up-I did agree to having someone call me back because they would not take “no” for the answer. I do screen my calls and will let my machine pick up until they get tired of calling. Usually I let my machine pick up anyway and until I know who is calling I do not pick up the phone. I am on the “do not call list”-guess that means nothing to them!

I have been seeing this “Dove Foundation” on our caller ID once or TWICE a day for the last several weeks! They have called as early as 8 am and as late as 8 pm. Also, they are annoying as hell, because they leave hang-up messages on our answering machine. When I saw their name on the Caller ID about a week ago, I answered the phone but I just waited and didn’t say anything. Then, I heard, “Hi, this is Cammie from the Dove Foundation”. When I remained silent, she repeated it and then hung up on me.

So, Dove just called again and I answered, only to be asked the very leading questions mentioned here. She kept pressing me to allow a follow-up phone call, which just seemed odd to me. Finally, I asked for her company’s website info and said I would just check that, but do NOT call me again. She kept insisting, and I told her that our number was on the Do Not Call list, at which point she said okay, we’ll take note of that.

I only wish that I had Googled this Dove Foundation before I took the call. I knew the call seemed weird, I should have known it was a computer call trying to make me think I was talking with a real person. I see that this company has been doing this for at least a couple of years. It’s hard to believe that these tactics work for them, but they must be able to fool some people and get some money out of it, or they would have stopped by now. I almost hope they call again so I can screw with their computer responses. And when they say they want to call me again - I’ll give them that number above for Dick Rolfe, (616) 681-0578!

I’ve received 2 calls now from The Dove Foundation and the “lady” calling asks for Frances (my deceased mother-in-laws name was Frances) and I asked for the last name of the person she was trying to reach. Then she said “may I speak to the lady of the house”. This morning when she called I told her that she had already called us and the response was “our records show that the survey was not completed” (this was because I hung up on her). She said “it will only take a minute” and my response was “OK hurry up”. At that point she hung up. If she calls again asking to speak to Frances my response will be “try her at 1-800-HEAVEN.

Cammie explained that they were a charity and what they did, and asked if I wanted to take the survey. I said yes, but then Cammie asked for my phone number, I said I didn’t want to be called again, Cammie asked me if I wanted to be put on the “do not call list” I said yes, is asked my phone number, which I gave, Cammie tried to hang up, but I asked it to repeat the number, A real live scratchy voice came on the phone and awkwardly repeated the number. I got my second call from this creepy “foundation” this morning. The first time, when the woman started asking how I felt about the “edgy” programming, I stopped her right there and told her I don’t agree with her views, and hung up. On the call I received this morning, I realized that it was the same woman, speaking the same phrases. The conversation proceeded along the same path as last time. I hung up again, then I called the 800 number back from my caller ID. I got a recording, which stated their position again, then told me that if I wanted to be put on their “do not call” list, to leave my number after the message. I did that, along with my own message of, “Get a life, you losers!” I’m curious to see whether they call me back or not, but if they do, I’ve made note of the date and time that I made the “do not call” request, and I’ll report them.

Wow - I wish I had known about this “Dove Foundation” before they called me tonight! I was driving into my garage when my husband said “there’s a telemarketer on the phone, she asked for the lady of the house”. When I asked him why he didn’t tell her to buzz off, he didn’t really have an answer.

So I answer the phone “hello?” and right away, this woman/robot launches into this diatribe about “edgy” programming and when she finally came up for air I said, “well, I don’t have kids so this isn’t something I even think about” and she said something like “well, you don’t have to be involved with children to care about this issue”. So I let her go on a little more and then she used the absolute worst, right-wing shitism infested, meaningless term of all time:

“family values”

I stopped her and said, “you’ve just used a phrase - family values - that gets my hackles up. I don’t think we should continue this conversation. But thank you for calling!"

She hung up on me.

Now I’m almost hoping she calls back, because now I want to play some mind games with her.

I just had a little bit of fun with these people. They had called me on several occasions in the past, and I obviously became wise to the fact that I was not speaking to a real person. On those past occasions, I simply hung up. This time, I decided to mess with the computer. Their interactive computer called and asked for me. I confirmed it was me, and realized after they identified themselves it was just a computer. So, I decided to play like an idiot: asking if they were involved with soap or chocolate, asking if they made movies about chocolate, etc. etc. This went on for a few minutes, I think Finally, a frustrated live operator came on the line and asked me “Sir, are you going to listen to…” And that was it, I just hung up…and laughed a whole lot. Quite fun, actually. I’ll do that again next time they call. You might want to give it a try; lots of fun! :-)

I ’especially’ enjoy those morons in this forum who advocate what this INVASIVE Dove ‘cartel’ is doing.

So you suggest they ‘preach family values’ through their ’edited’ movies. If you believe that, you just admitted to being a bad parent. You feel ‘family values’ comes from watching movies - rather than direct intervention through the ‘father-mother’ responsibilities. Is YOUR ‘Christian way’ to tell your kids to, “… watch this movie and you’ll grow up to be a wonderful person?” If you don’t have PERSONAL time for your kids, perhaps you shouldn’t have kids in the first place!!!!

And what part of ‘do not call’ do you NOT understand??? When someone does NOT want to be bothered, this is without exception. There is such a law as ‘disturbing the peace’ and ‘invasion of privacy’.

Additionally, I was annoyed when I got a call from these morons and they wasted 5 seconds of my time before I hung up. Yet, I come to this ‘forum’ only to waste over an hour trying to find relevant contact information on who to file a suit on and I need to ‘wade through’ hundreds of ‘whining’ entries. HEY!!! WE KNOW THEY’RE ANNOYING!!! AND, we know the ’lady of the house’ line - it’s not necessary to repeat the conversation a few hundred times!!!!

Read the last hundred or so comments above and, after doing so, ask yourself what ‘resolve’ you have gained! All you’ve done is waste YOUR time FAR MORE than that damned ‘foundation’ has!

Through your ‘personal experiences’, you are ALL wasting far more time than this ‘phony phoundation’ is. Drop the damned ‘personal complaints’ in this forum and put some RELEVANT infomation here. Such as:

Where to call/write to initiate a lawsuit; link to class action suit against these morons; information on what to say/write which HAS ALREADY BEEN EFFECTIVE in getting the calls to stop; links to those whose JOB includes dealing with these bastards - and how to contact them to inquire as to why they’re NOT doing their job; etc..

Get the picture? Don’t waste everyone’s time ‘whining’ about your personal ‘phone time’ with these bastards. If you don’t have something CONSTRUCTIVE to add, don’t write anything! It’s just that much more people have to wade through in TRYING TO FIND useful information.

(BTW, the attorney generals office in Michigan doesn’t have any specific info on this ‘foundation’)

someone should take these people to Detroit and leave them in the middle of 8mile. after 6 calls in 1 day you think that they would figure out no one’s answering and no will. the dnc registry only works for telemarketers that are selling a product or a service. dove foundation claims to be a “charitable” organization which is exempt

for under the rules of dnc.

RAT BASTARDS!!!! I would like to think that i am intelligent enough to decide what is or is not appropiate for my child. not some self-appointed self righteous S.O.B. who probably are putting more money in their pockets then into their fight for so-called morality.

Simply plopping your kid in front of the television as a babysitter is ridiculous. plus, all this bitching about answering a phone call. do yourselves a favor- answer the goddamn phone. you all are like a bunch of kids, whining about something that is a simple fix. grow up.

Dove Foundation isnt a scam.

You people need to CALM DOWN.

There are people on the other end of the computer pushing the buttons. Its their job. It might not be the best job, but they need money to feed THEIR children and pay their bills.

They dont “edit” movies.. They produce good wholsome movies for the whole family to enjoy. If you just give them a chance.. They arent bad people.

They use the automated voice for quality control purposes. If you let them go on with their speil, then thats the end of it… You wouldnt want a Live agent telling you lies, or the message in a wrong way would you?

Ugh.. This annoys me.

You know, it’s funny. The apologists for the workers are making an argument that works just as well for the movie industry.

As to genny’s slimy attempt to portray people who don’t like frequent and dishonest harassment as bad parents, there’s not much to say; it’s vicious, it’s bitter, and it’s totally uncalled for. That kind of defensiveness shows that, in fact, the criticisms of the Dove Foundation are right on target. They’re scammers pushing a cure that’s way worse than the disease.

I got news for you, genny. The Dove Foundation has no reason to exist except for those same crappy parents who think the TV should just magically be okay for their kids. Without those people, the entire exercise is just pointless. Get back to whiting your sepulchres, some of us have stuff to do.

If you have kids at this time in the morning you’re getting them off to school. Someone called my home tw times; both before 8:30am

Fed me a Stepford Line of Bull about not having the money of Disney, told me how wonderful they are; etc. etc, etc. This stepford droner was a top of his game. In lieu of arguing with him, I hung up on him. The nerve…assuming the lady of the house is a fool. This group is scary and should be stomped to death. Beware!

From: steve

8:25 pm the phone rings. I look at the caller I.D. it says Dove Foundation, They ask for the lady of the house, I tell there is no lady of the house, so they ask for the man of the house. I ask who is calling

But all I hear is silence. After 30 or more seconds, I ask, “are you there? After 10 more seconds I hear a voice with a very intimidating tone trying to get me to buy whatever they are selling, just something to the effect that I’m being unhelpful. Then to add insult to injury she hangs up, never having identified themselves.

But since I have caller I.D. I do some research. I find that the tactics used on me are identical to what thy use on others.

I also discover they have been recently fined $70,000.00 for Do Not Call regulations.

I check to see if they are listed in the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability ECFA, and they are not there.

This is dead giveaway that they can’t be trusted.

Following other website links about them I file complaints with the FCC, the Michigan Attorney General, and the Do not call registry.

Everyone who has written here should follow through with every agency they can complain to so this bunch of crooks gets put behind bars.

One would think that after being fined $70,000.00 they would stop violating the do not call laws.

Also one would think all organizations that claim to be Christian are crooked.

First of all, even if we all make mistakes, no organization as crooked as this, and some others who are often in the news for doing things like claiming to heal people, living in 5 million dollar mansions are not true Christians.

True Christian Organizations do not spend millions of dollars on television ads.

I sponsor Children through a wonderful organization; I’ve never seen them advertise on TV. They do not stuff my mailbox with requests for more money. In fact, the almost don’t write at all. I get quarterly reports for my taxes. I get letters from my child. And they tell me if for any reason I am not able to continue sponsoring my child, not to worry about it, they will make sure my child has a new sponsor.

I’ve been sponsoring with them for 14 years, I’ve visited a child project in Brazil. Every project is part of a local church. And all the workers are locals. So the culture of each country is respected.

If I told you their name, you would not recognize it. Compassion International.

So don’t get the idea every crook on TV or on the telephone that pretends they are Christians are true Christians.

And everyone please report these crooks, type in dove foundation and follow the links to report them.

Oh, I didn’t realize it was a recording, it does make sense though, because it was so unresponsive.

Still if I made a recording, I doubt I would make it so rude. But then I don’t know or want to know how crooks work.

Hmmm, this talk of Cammie being computerized got me to wondering. so I called back the 800-679-0336 number the call came from. sounded like a live person, but they said I had 20 seconds to ask one question about Dove. I waited a couple seconds then said “is this a computer” at which time another voice came on…a seamingly live one. I said gee, you aren’t the voice I had just a second ago, she said no, I am the computer operator. I said thank you that was all I need to know and hung up.

I just hung up on Cammy. There was a long slience after I asked her to repeat that the Dove Foundation had raised over 100 million dollars for this effort. I then stated emphatically that 100 million dollars could be better spent on things such as feeding the poor, providing health coverage to the sick and maybe cleaning up New Orleans. This is after poor Cammy had to listen to me rant that cinema is a democratic art form and after all movies are a luxury, everytime we don’t see a movie we save money…oh well, poor cammy called the wrong house.

I got a hang-up robo call today. when I googled them & got this site, i phoned the #, the person answering said, “customer service.” I asked why they answered that way as though they were a store, etc. the woman on the other end covered the mouthpiece (but not too well) and was asking someone in the office, “she’s asking how they got her # and why we don’t leave a message when we call…” I said to them, “I can hear you!” and they switched to the auto response prompts. Then i asked for a live person and one came on the line! I scolded them when she began the Dove Foundation rant, and said, “would you like to get hang-up calls like this?” and “I shouldn’t have to google a legitimate organization.” I am now going to call the Foundation Director on a Friday night, sounds like fun!

I asked her not to call again, as I am on the do not call list, i pay for an unlisted & unpublished phone #. She asked for my number to remove it from the call list! I think Cammy/Tammy has changed her name to Tina, at least in my region. She sounds like a Stepford wife that was programmed by Phyllis Shafly. I immediately thought this was in some way related to Dove Soap & their equally obnoxious and opportunistic ad campaign promoting so called “real women” which is now featuring badly photographed naked old ladies. I wanted to tell Tina that if she’s really into protecting children’s delicate sensibilities, that seeing their grandmother naked in a magazine centerfold would be enough to qualify for a few years of psychotherapy. I too am on the National No Call List which is also totally disregarded by political candidates of all parties during election years. Who enforces these things?

I am tired of dictating buggers out there spreading their idea’s and values like no one else is allowed to have their own. I have one word for them … Freedom.

I figure it is time for me to join a group to protect my rights as I know they will be coming down on me soon. Point me to a link.

It is about time that more than just words were aimed at this sleeziest of fradulent telemarketing schemes. I, personally, am going to contact the Fraud division of the Better Business Bureau, as well as any other organization that I can contact with my message. In the meanwhile, while the wheels of “revenge” turn, we should all ban together and jam the 800 line of these idiots with thousands of calls on a daily basis. Taking a gentle hint is not in their reality, but perhaps by fighting back with our calls might just annoy them enough to rethink their strategy.

I got a call from the Dove Foundation yesterday. Needless to say, irritating. Cammy asked for the lady of the house and proceeded to say the survey would take 90 seconds …yeah right. What was creepy was that it seemed not to matter what response I gave because her responses were always to say of course I would agree that family values are important so it made logical sense that I was already a de facto Dove supporter or something like that. I got fed up and blurted out that her 90 seconds were up and hung up.

DOVE is alive and well in Alaska! My first call - or at least the first I’ve picked up. Don’t generally answer 800 #’s - don’t know why I did this one. The script was pretty much as described above. After terminating the call after about 30 seconds, I thought Cammy was just a batty old lady - now however I learn she’s bot. Not the sort of Judeo-Christian family values I identify with - these people are con artists. I wonder how many decent well-meaning people they victimize? People caring for their families, giving their hard-earned money to frauds…

Dove Foundation has called us sporadically for about a year now, and at the most inopportune times. Such as early morning on the weekends. Late night during the week. Every time I answer, the phone is silent, then disconnects. We’ve been on the do not call list since its inception. Don’t believe for a minute that they have anyone’s interests in mind but their own. They have found a way to make money. As for those who would defend their tactics because of the need for family-friendly entertainment, I would remind you of Jesus’ response to the temple moneychangers. They, too, were using religion to turn a profit. Organizations like this one do more harm than good, because they bring disrepute with their tactics.

A friend of mine referred me to this site after I complained bout them harrassing me.

Whatever you do, don’t talk to them. I was feeling generous and agreed to take their survey. A while later I get videos in the mail. Since I never ordered videos I sent them back, only to receive more videos. I opened the package to get the number to call to ask them to stop sending me videos. I told them I didn’t want them, my son was too young, and besides I don’t even own a VCR. They promised to send a return label, but instead they send my DVD’s. I called them again, to get a return label but nothing ever happened.

Then I start getting calls every day trying to collect the bill for those stupid videos. They claim Im responsible for the bill because I “didn’t respond in the 30 trial period”. When I explain what happened they just give me some supervisor’s number and he promises to remedy the situation but nothing ever happens.

And they have that stupid automated computer and you have to yell over the voice to talk to someone only for them to cut me off with the computer voice again. The last guy I talk to would even let me talk at all. I had to start screaming on the phone over him because he refused to listen and kept interupting me. When I finally told him what happened he decided that they had made a mistake. I owe for for the VHS AND the DVD’s now.

I flat out told them to stop calling me, that I would not pay them one penny that they are wasting their time calling me and the only way they can do anything is if they sue me and I’ll appeal all the way to the US supreme court if I have to. And they flat our refused to comply saying they will call me as much as they want until I pay them money. Which they expect me to give them a credit card number over the phone.

Well they have kept their promise. They started calling every day, several times if I hang up or don’t answer.

I no longer even answer my phone if I don’t recognize the number. They tricked me yesterday though, caller ID said Sarah and Gabe, and looked like a local number, 616-597-4100. That’s what I get for not paying attention to the area code.

I plan on filing complaints with everyone I can think of now.

From other websites, it seems that the “survey” is done and on its way to the UK. But here, in Dallas, I received a phone call from Cammie as I’m washing dishes after dinner (around 7 or so). My husband answered and handed the phone to me after having been asked for the lady of the house.

I responded to their suggestion that the MPAA’s ratings are increasingly getting more lenient. I told them the in the 1980’s the PG movies had nudity and profanity and violence (just watch Goonies or Romancing the Stone). Just for the fact that I enjoyed Goonies as a kid, I allow my kids to watch it reminding them that it’s not okay to say those words.

She apparently didn’t agree with me and continued on some other rant to which I replied: “uuuhhhhh” and she hung up. Nice.
